We Want Them Back Alive! A Night of Poetry, Protest and Solidarity with the Ayotzinapa 43

York PEN society are proud to announce our next event this term! On Tuesday the 24th November, we’re going to be hosting a¬†multimedia night at The Fleeting Arms in town, complete with poetry, film, music and food. Themed around Ayotzinapa and the 43 students who have been disappeared, we will be fundraising for their families.

There will also be information about the UK’s relationship with Mexico and the opportunity to sign a petition directed to the Mexican government, calling on them to stop misrepresenting the students as criminals and protect the families from retaliatory attacks. In addition, we will have a draft letter objecting to the recent wide-ranging agreement between the UK and Mexico which includes amongst other things a commitment by the British Army to help train the Mexican military, who have been implicated in the disappearance of Mexican citizens and whose involvement in the Ayotzinapa case is still unclear.

The Facebook event page is available here if you’d like to check it out.

This should be a great opportunity to learn more and take positive action to help the families of the disappeared, amongst great company in a lovely venue: we’ll see you there!
